Naughty Dog debuted an extensive new gameplay trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End at Sony’s press conference during E3 today. The action-packed trailer featured returning character Nathan Drake and his long-time partner Victor Sullivan as they ploughed their way through a marketplace in a foreign city.
In characteristic Uncharted fashion, the trailer kicks off with a shoot-out breaking out in a marketplace. Drake takes cover behind stalls and ducks out to fire at enemies, but cover was quickly destroyed by incoming enemy fire. All manner of crates, stalls, even fruit was not safe from the carnage, which ensured that the marketplace would end up in many more pieces than it started off with.
At one point Drake was grabbed by an enemy as another approached to beat him down, but the double-team was countered as Sully dove in to save his partner–a nice touch in what otherwise felt like a level featuring Nathan Drake versus the world.
It was chaotic and action-packed, in that over-the-top and satisfying fashion I’ve come to expect from the Uncharted series. The gunfight quickly transformed to car chase when Drake scaled a building to heroically leap into the driver’s seat of a jeep, and the duo sped off on a surprisingly extensive and environmentally devastating car chase that would probably prompt locals to ban all visitors from driving, ever again. The chase took Drake and Sully through the maze-like streets which had me questioning how players were supposed to figure out where to go, and it wasn’t long before things escalated once again. Speeding on a road which ran parallel to a bridge, Drake would grapple hook up to onto a crane being driven above and launch painfully into a pillar. It was fast, it was punishing, and it ended with him swinging straight into a scaffold, where I expect the ride to just get wilder.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be released in March 2016 exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
