Chaos Rings, the first original iPhone RPG from Square Enix, made it to the number-one sales spot in 15 different countries on the iTunes App Store. The publisher’s apparently happy with the results, because in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, it announced a prequel game and teased a completely new sequel to come later.
Chaos Rings Omega, set to launch for the iPhone on the App Store next month, is a prequel set 10,000 years before the original Chaos Rings. Like the game before it, it’s centered around the Ark Arena, a dungeon complex where pairs of fighters compete for survival and a chance at immortality, and the characters Olgar and Vahti are back for this game as well. Gameplay is turn-based and centers around exploring the vast dungeon and defeating monsters.
In addition to Omega, Square Enix also announced a separate sequel, Chaos Rings II, currently under development. Unlike Omega, CRII will be a universal app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. No release date or further information was given for the sequel, which — like the other Chaos Rings games — will be developed by Media Vision, creator of the Wild Arms games.
