After a year or so of silence, tri-Ace — the veteran RPG developers behind the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series — has announced two brand-new titles. Unusually for the company, they’re both portable games, and for the first time, Konami is handling publication duties.
Frontier Gate, the first game announced, is a PSP title that’s best described as a turn-based version of Capcom’s Monster Hunter. You can control two characters at once, and up to three players can control six-man parties via online wireless. The second game, Labyrinth no Kanata, is a Nintendo 3DS dungeon RPG directed by Takayuki Suguro, last seen heading up the team behind Resonance of Fate.
Frontier Gate is due to hit Japan by the end of 2011, while Labyrinth has no release date yet. Neither game has been announced for US release as of now.
