Fatal Frame, Tecmo’s Japan-styled horror adventure series that hasn’t been seen in America for half a decade, might be making a comeback. In the latest issue of Japan’s Famitsu magazine, series producer Keisuke Kikuchi stated that he expects to unveil the title he and his team’s currently working on sooner than later.

“I can’t discuss exact details yet, but we are working hard on something right now,” Kikuchi told Famitsu. “I think we’ll be able to make an announcement soon, so I hope people look forward to it.”

First released on the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2002, the Fatal Frame series features survival-horror action that focuses on Japanese occult themes. The most recent title, Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, was launched for the Wii in 2008 but failed to receive an official overseas release. Nintendo showed media from a new Fatal Frame title back at September 2010 conference in Japan, but no further information has come out on the series since then.
