The developers/publishers of the game “News Tower” gave the following game to thedailygamepad.net free of charge. On behalf of thedailygamepad.net, I would like to thank the publishers and developers for giving me a free copy of the game to play for this video and review. Remember that this article and the video above are based on an early-access version of the game. As a result, the video you watch might or might not include items or features that will be in the finished game; also, there might be some obvious errors, and the game on which this article is based is in Early Access.
In News Tower, you can step into the shoes of the boss of a thriving media company. You’ll oversee a group of reporters, balance the needs of the printing press, and negotiate the ever-fluctuating waves of public opinion as you try to ascend to the top of the newspaper world. Fundamentally, News Tower is a management simulation. As you grow, you’ll be able to access other departments like sports and entertainment as you construct your newsroom floor by ceiling. It seems strategic to assign reporters to beats and send them out to follow stories, and the inclusion of RPG-like aspects adds depth. As they gain expertise and advance in particular fields, reporters might become expert investigative journalists or viral social media sensations.
To be honest, trying to establish a newspaper empire in a tycoon game is a welcome change of pace for the management simulation genre. It’s interesting to balance public image, reporter happiness, and press deadlines. It’s satisfying to watch your reporters grow from rookies to seasoned pros. A layer of strategy is added by improving their abilities and placing them in stories that play to their strengths. I also enjoyed how the game throws a range of curveballs at you, such as lawsuits and employees who are not satisfied. With a hint of humor, it conveys the stress and difficulties of managing a real-world journalistic business.
News Tower is still in Early Access, despite having strong gameplay mechanics. Anticipate occasional errors and balance difficulties. For instance, there had been a game update that broke my save, forcing me to restart from scratch when I tried to play again. Furthermore, while I was playing, a memory leak in the game caused my computer to freeze to the point that I had to force restart it. When this happened, I was recording another video of the game being played, but I lost the footage because of it.
News Tower is a promising game despite a few problems, which are to be expected in Early Access. It provides a distinctive take on the management sim genre, mixing real-world newspaper drama with interesting reporter development. Although early access hiccups can be difficult, those who persevere through them will be rewarded with an amazing experience. News Tower is definitely something to keep an eye on if you’re searching for a new perspective on the genre and appreciate the rush of creating something from the ground up.
If you enjoy management simulators and want to try something different, give it a try. However, waiting for the complete release could be a wise decision if you want a more refined experience. If you want to give News Tower a try, you can play the game’s free-to-play demo first before paying $19.99 USD to buy it on Steam. However, bear in mind that you can only play the demo on a PC. Additionally, even though you can save, the last time I played the demo and then transitioned to the full game, the save file did not work with the game.
