Unbound: Worlds Apart is an indie platformer game that is both beautiful and challenging, and has recently released to PC, macOS, Linux, and the Nintendo Switch. I have seen the demo before and was really intrigued by the game. So when Alien Pixel Studios approached us here at thedailygamepad.net with a copy of Unbound World’s Apart to play on stream and to review I was really excited and eager to provide coverage. Before I go on with my review, I would like to thank Alien Pixel Studios for providing us at thedailygamepad.net for providing us with a free copy of Unbound: Worlds Apart to play on stream and to play to write this review for the game.
Unbound: Worlds Aparts starts off as you playing as Soli, a little mage or sorcerer of some sort who is playing in their village, as their village prepares for the festival that cleanses the crystal that keeps their village safe. Before the ceremony takes place Soli is chasing after a creature that seems to appear out of nowhere. Upon their travels, an event is triggered that sends Soli on the run to get to safety. Thus this event is what sends you into the game.
The game is stunning, I really love the visuals and the gameplay of the game. Soli gets the ability to transverse dimensions by summoning a bubble. This then allows Soli to see things that may not be in their dimension and vice versa. I like that the mechanic isn’t just a one-off type of thing either. You have to know when to use the ability and how to use the ability as well. As the game progresses you have to revisit places you’ve once visited and it does have teleporters. So although the game is a platformer, it does have a Metroidvania sort of vibe to it.
When it came to the controls for the game, I will admit that the controls of the game are pretty good. Personally, I like to use a controller when playing platformers as that is what is natural for me. However, if you are a keyboard and mouse player. The game does use keyboard controls. I tried it with a keyboard and it’s just not for me. Controls on the controller were pretty solid and I didn’t have any issues with the controls. I didn’t see anything really bad with the game and if you are into Platformers and Metroidvania type games then Unbound Worlds Apart is a game I highly recommend.
If you would like to play Unbound Worlds Aparts you can get the game on PC, macOS, and Linux via Steam and GOG.com, and the Nintendo Switch for $19.99 USD.
