The following game, “Immortal Life,” was provided to thedailygamepad.net for free by the developers and publishers of the game. I would like to thank the developers and publishers on behalf of thedailygamepad.net for providing a free copy of the game to play for this video and review.

Just out of early access on January 17, 2024, Immortal Life is a farming simulation game that transports you on a fantastical adventure through an engrossing life simulation experience. Go to a friendly valley, cultivate magic, and become an expert at crafts, cooking, and fishing. To obtain Immortal Life, take part in thrilling combat, deepen your relationships with your allies, and construct your ideal house!

Immortal Life allows you to pick between a male and a female persona. The main drawback is the lack of character customization. The only customization option is to name your character. In my playthrough, I chose the name Yoko Light, but the people in the game identify you by your surname; thus, throughout the game, NPCs refer to me as Light, which is quite interesting to say. So, if you want a name that suits you nicely, enter your first name in the last name column, and vice versa.

The game is similar to other farming simulations in that you must craft, cultivate, cook, battle monsters, and fish. Normally, when it comes to farming sims, I despise fishing because most farm sims turn it into a mini-game that can be challenging. However, this is not the case with Immortal Life. I can say that I truly adore how simple the fishing in the game is, which makes it enjoyable rather than a tedious effort.

Regarding the cooking aspect of the game, I had mixed feelings. Although I enjoy that the cooking is a mini-game, there were moments when I wasn’t sure how to follow the recipe. The game does explain the cooking part to you and even provides a screen that tells you what everything does, but I just kept forgetting, so I believe it was more a case of player mistake than game design.

You have two options for controlling the game: a controller, which is an added benefit, or a keyboard and mouse. The game flowed better using a gamepad, in my opinion, than it did with a keyboard and mouse. The game’s dialogue doesn’t seem to recognize that you are playing with a controller, so instead of the controller, it gives you the keyboard and mouse controls. You have to either go into the settings to see what the controls are or switch between the keyboard and mouse and the controller. Therefore, if they could modify the speech to reflect the controls, that would be great.

Even though the game may be played in English, the voiceover is already in the game’s original tongue, so there’s no way to switch it. Just in case, I thought I would bring it up so folks would know what they are getting into.

Overall, Immortal Life is a pretty good farming sim game. Certain things should be improved, but it’s still a fairly playable game, and I haven’t encountered any issues. If you enjoy playing farming simulation games, I recommend giving Immortal Life a try. If you want to play Immortal Life for yourself, you can do so on a PC via Steam. The game is presently on sale for 13.49 USD until January 24, 2024, after which it will be back to 16.99 USD.

She has been gaming for 30+ years; and feels that a lot of indie games go back to the games that she grew up with and aren't afraid to think outside of the box to make a game. It is because of this thought process that she prefers to play a majority of indie titles, but still likes to play Triple-A titles and Retro games too. She enjoys searching through itch.io platform and looking for games that are stream friendly, and then playing them on stream to get them the exposure they may not be getting. Some of her favorite game genres include Platformers, Puzzlers, Role-Playing and she's recently developed a loved for Shmups.
