The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developers who left CD Projekt Red last month to form their own indie studio, Fool’s Theory, have now announced their first project.
“Seven” is a 3D isometric role-playing game inspired by Thief. The game runs on Unreal Engine 4, and is set in the “sandbox world” of Vetrall Empire, which is described as a “beyond post-apocalyptic” place.
Fool’s Theory’s ambition with Seven is to “redefine the isometric RPG genre” through, among other things, parkour-style player movement. The developer is also hoping to tell a strong story with Seven that’s “far from black and white,” but instead infused with branching choices and challenging moral decisions.
It’s still early days for Seven, as production only began in June. There’s no gameplay to be seen yet, but you can check out some images in the gallery above.
“Our greatest ambition is to bring a breath of fresh air into classic, isometric role playing games–a genre where the player was traditionally chained to the ground,” Fool’s Theory founder Jakub Rokosz said in a statement. “Seven will bring a new type of exploration as well as open new possibilities for tactical planning and stealth gameplay. We are fully aware how big the challenge is, but it only gives us a greater motivation.”
Rokosz spent more than five years at CD Projekt Red, where he worked on celebrated RPGs The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3. He’s joined at Fool’s Theory by Karolina Kuzia, who spent three years at CD Projekt Red as a quest designer for The Witcher 3.
Seven is being developed by Fool’s Theory in partnership with Khlolat and MouseCraft publisher IMGN.PRO. Together, there are 16 people currently working full-time on the game. IMGN.PRO co-owner Bartosz Moskala said he’s hoping that Seven will deliver a “cutting-edge gaming experience.”
So far, there is no explanation for why the game’s name is Seven. For more on Seven, which is coming to PC but has no release date yet, check out the game’s website, which also features some nice-sounding music, though it’s unclear if this is actually from the game.
