If you follow me on twitter (@qualitybeats84); you should know that since getting my iPad I’ve been knees deep in iOS games, and–admittedly so–loving them. I’ve decided to start a weekly trend of picking my favorite games out of the app store and encouraging you to try them out.

This weeks round of games hit hard and received into welcome arms.  With little to nothing to play on consoles as of late, the iOS market made up for that with a handful of great distractions from our everyday lives.

Awesome Land
Awesome Land is… well, awesome!  This Super Mario homage is as strange as its 8-bit blueprint soaked in the gas of a Harley-Davidson, with the leather to match.  More importantly, this retro-y platformer controls like the best of them sans analog control. If you’re concerned that controls would make Awesome Land’s jumps impossible, they don’t. Classic sensibilities make this a challenging and addictive experience and I’ve yet to clear World 4.

Call of Cthulhu : The Wasted Land
So far Im enjoying my time with the Cthulhu strategy RPG Ive been hyping up. Unfortunately, the people over at Red Wasp Design are busy fixing a texture bug that put my time with The Wasted Land on pause. It looks to pack a hefty lump of gameplay hours, a interesting story…so far, and has been challenging my attack strategies since the second campaign mission.  Hard to recommend in its current state, yet I’d be sure to expect a review once I have the chance to wrap it up.

Spice Invaders
More tower defense; is it really necessary?  When a TD game has this much production value, it is! Spice Invaders has a lot going for it, and boasts a polygon grid system which I’m a huge fan of. I intend on diving much deeper into Spice Invaders than I have already; you should too.  Don’t let the name fool you, this isn’t a blatant Space Invaders clone.

GhostTrick
It’s a port.  I’ve been meaning to play this on the DS but found it hard to want to dish out the cash for it. Now I’m playing it on my iPad, nearly fifteen dollars cheaper.  With games like this popping up on the App Store, the future of iOS games gets brighter.

Needless to say, my iPad will be getting a ton of game time this weekend.  Expect reviews throughout the weekend and into next week.
