The first details on Need for Speed: The Run have been released today following its debut in trailer form yesterday. The Run is indeed in development at Electronic Arts studio Black Box, as suspected, and it’ll be running on the drop-dead-gorgeous Frostbite 2 engine created by DICE for Battlefield 3.

Speculation based on yesterday’s trailer indicated the game would be more story-heavy than last year’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit which, like The Run, is a more arcade-style racing experience than last month’s Shift 2.

“This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level,” said EA’s Jason DeLong in an announcement. “We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering — explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”
