You can now watch over-the-air television on your Xbox One in the United States and Canada thanks to the release of the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner, Microsoft has announced.
The tuner, which Microsoft said is one of the most-requested live TV features on Xbox Feedback, costs $60, and allows you to access whatever broadcast networks are available in your area, subscription free, and without having to switch inputs between your games and TV. This is a cheaper version of the tuner members of the Xbox One preview program could start using last month.
“Xbox One owners can look forward to a variety of useful features, such as the ability to pause up to 30 minutes of live TV, watch TV on the right side of your screen while playing games with Snap, and navigate channels using Kinect voice controls,” Microsoft said.
You can buy the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner on the Microsoft Store, where you can also get a $100 bundle that includes an antenna in case you don’t already have one.
With the TV tuner, Xbox One now has pretty comprehensive access to all types of video content. The console already allows you to plug in your cable or satellite feed via HDMI, access live TV with apps like Sling TV and ESPN, and stream from HBO Go, Netflix, and others.
