With all the hype this week about the new Star Wars trailer and the rush to buy tickets, it’s easy to forget that there are other movies coming out in December. One of these is the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring historical adventure The Revenant, which is set to open the week after The Force Awakens. Now DiCaprio has spoken about why he isn’t too worried about the competition from the latest part of the Star Wars saga.
In an interview with Yahoo Movies, DiCaprio explains that the physical challenges of filming The Revenant will make it something special. “I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do,” he said. “What we were trying to pull off was so incredibly ambitious.”
“I’m going to be in line for Star Wars as well,” he continued. “What’s great about this time of year is, as you know, they save the best for last in most cases. And hopefully, it just means more people are excited to go to the movies.
“I think that people know this time of year is where a lot of great pieces of art are going to come out. I would never think that we’d be able to compete with Star Wars–that’s something that’s embedded in our cultural DNA. But I think when people begin to hear about this movie, they’ll want to go see it. And that’s all we can hope for.”
Last month, a new trailer for The Revenant was released, which showed some of the spectacular action that moviegoers can expect from the film when it arrives on December 25. The films is directed by Birdman‘s Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and also stars Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domhnall Gleeson.
