The following game, “Chronique des Silencieux,” was given to thedailygamepad.net for free by the developers and publishers of the game. I would like to thank the developers and publishers on behalf of thedailygamepad.net for providing a free copy of the game to play for this video and review.
Set in 1960s southern France, Chronique des Silencieus has you play a rookie private investigator named Eugene Faury, the nephew of Flavio, who has landed himself in jail after an altercation with the henchmen of a drug dealer. Eugene is tasked with uncovering the secrets of many people. While following your leads, you will have to think quickly: ask witnesses questions, discover their lies, imagine why, and finally confront the silent ones fleeing their past.
I’ll admit that the game’s artwork drew me in, and that is what made it enjoyable to play. The game has been translated into English, but some of the translations are a little off. Also, there are cut scenes in the game, but those cut scenes are in French voiceover, but they still provide you with subtitles so that you aren’t completely lost. The controls in the game were one of the things I ran into some problems with. Eugene can be moved with the mouse or the keyboard. They do, however, require some getting used to and seem a little clunky. Eugene feels a little awkward, even when you can get him to run by double-clicking. But I didn’t like moving him about with the WASD or arrow keys. I continued to play it like a standard point-and-click game by using the mouse.
When it came to the gameplay of the game, I found it very interesting. The tutorial was a bit confusing for me, but then I did figure it out. Sometimes the tutorial will stick for a moment, so if you make a mistake, you have to go with your mistake to push it further along. I do like that you have to read through the testimonials of the characters and then contradict them by using documents that you may find. You did this by linking a pin to the conversation and the document; if you don’t get it right, Eugene will say, “I think I lost track here.”
I also appreciate that you may generate assumptions. When I play mystery games, I usually run deductions of my own, and I like the game integrated as a gameplay component. When attempting to form a hypothesis, you must add two characters to a padlock and then locate the key that joins them. If you succeed, the padlock will be opened, furthering the story.
Despite its technical flaws, Chronique des Silencieux is a compelling detective novel with a unique deduction mechanic and a fascinating setting. If you’re seeking a story-driven game with a lot of character and historical information and you’re willing to put up with some technological idiosyncrasies, this Gallic mystery might be for you. If you would like to play Chronique des Silencieux for yourself, you can do so on PC via Steam. The original price of the game is 24.99 USD, but it is currently on sale for 19.99 USD up until February 12, 2024.
