It’s a galaxy of games out there!

Weekly Staff Picks: The Planetarium, is a look at five noteworthy Planet-themed titles in the GOG.com catalog. This week’s pick is inspired by JudasIscariot’s GOG’s Solar System GOG Mix. He did the hard work for us, so stick your feet up and let’s observe the endless skies from a safe distance. If after all this you’re still hungry for some space-themed entertainment, make sure to check out his selection for more great locations to experience.

There is no reason to rush into things, so the Lifeless Planet is our ideal first stop to make. It’s the first planet of our particular solar system; it may be lifeless, but if you go you’ll get to explore a town that used to be filled with space communists! This indie third-person experience of suspense and exploration is currently discounted for 50% off.

Thank the stars we’re far, far away as we next observe the Infested Planet. There is a sign here: “Abandon all hope ye who lands on this planet. It’s a wee bit infested with, well, aliens. Evil aliens. Aliens that are out to eat you!” Signed: JudasIscariot. That’s as far as we’re going right now, but if holding your ground against thousands of aliens in a top-down real-time tactical shooter is your idea of fun, you can buy a one way ticket to the Infested Planet with a 66% discount.

Lovely Planet is the ideal pit stop to make for a change of pace. Judas calls it a paradise planet. Good for those who managed to escape either the Lifeless Planet or the infested one. It has one moon, it’s “the most authentic First Person Shooter experience, a game of jumping and shooting” and it is absolutely colourful. An extended stay here is now available with a 66% discount as well.

Finally we get to the Freedom Planet – a land of supersonic speedsters. That’s no wonder, considering the planet’s peculiar geography is full of twists, turns and enormous loop-de-loops. To survive here, you’ll have to be fast – you’ll have to fly through the air at high speed like a comet, bust through foes with a flurry of punches and summon motorcycles that let you ride up walls and ceilings. And that’s just to pick up your groceries.

If you like what you’ve seen so far, head over to The Planetarium and seek out your ideal world. Discounts up to 66% off on great titles, including Sonic-inspired Freedom Planet and the touching Filmbuff documentary Journey to Planet X, will last for 72 hours, until Thursday, January 22, at 10:59AM GMT.
