Developed and published by Ratloop Games Canada, VROOM KABOOM is supposed to be a Racing Action indie game, that is like Twisted Metal.  The game does look great and it said that VR is supported. However, it doesn’t seem like VR is just supported but feels like VR is more of a requirement and NON-VR is just a mere option. When I was first offered the game, I saw the trailer and was really looking forward to playing it. However, since receiving the Premium Code from the developers for free ;I have not been able to play the game, because it’s just way to overpowered for my mid-range PC. Therefore, this will not be one of my traditional reviews, but more of how if you have a low-mid range computer you should not download this game. Before I begin, I still want to take the time to thank Ratloop Games Canada for providing me with a free code for the Steam Version of the game.

As I stated before, the game does look great and it reminded me a lot of Twisted Metal from its trailer. As a kid, I loved playing Twisted Metal and that’s what intentionally drew me into the game. However, since I have received the code for premium, I have not even been able to play the game. In the past I have played other games that support VR with no problem, but for some odd reason my mid-range PC just doesn’t gel with this game at all. In fact, the game appears to be a resources hog when it comes to lower end/mid-range PCs. Just to show you what I mean I have taken screenshots of what it does. I also understand that there is a minimum requirement to run the game, but even the minimum requirements scream to me that this should have just been a straight VR game and not a game that supports VR. To make things easier let me post what my specs are so you get a general idea of what I am running:

Manufacturer:Acer
Model:Aspire GX-281
Processor:AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-Core Processor 3.20 Ghz
Installed Memory:8.00 GB
System:64-BIT
Video Card:Nvidia GeForce GTX-1050
HDD:2 TB

Again, a pretty mid- range computer.  I can play some games in their highest settings with no problem at all. So, therefore I thought that I would be able to at least get VROOM KABOOM to run on my PC.  The screen shot that I am posting below is my PC without running VROOM KABOOM and no other programs at all. I turned off all other programs – minus snipping tool in which I used to grab the screen shots — and the Steam Client and this is what my computer is at.

The next screenshot is after starting up VROOM KABOOM. My computers memory begins to rise. Mind you this is just going through the game’s splash screens.  The game itself hasn’t even started up.

This last and final screen shot is of the game being loaded up and being stuck on it’s loading screen for an eternity.

The memory continues to rise and for me if the memory reaches a 96% it will shut down my video displays making me have to restart the PC.  I have tried several times to play the game but sadly, I am unable to play because of this factor. Again, I’m not putting the blame on the developers completely, because I should have read the minimum requirements for the game. I just wish that the developers would have taken into consideration lower-mid range PCs. To me it feels like you have  to have at minimum; a PC with lower end top tier parts  or a pc that plays VR. Maybe in the future the developers would considered releasing another edition for lower-mid range pc, but for now if you own one of those PC’s I would recommend not downloading the game, as it maybe to intensive for your computer.

However, If you still would like to experience VROOM KABOOM  for yourself you can get it on Steam as Free to Play or pay $19.99 USD for the premium which opens up more items or on PS4 For the price of $19.99 USD. The game also offers a free demo for PS4 as well as supports PSVR.
