Verizon_Kyocera_Hydro_Elite_Official

Verizon’s Kyocera Hydro Elite has leaked many times before, so the only thing left to happen was for Verizon to officially make the device, well, official. That’s finally happened, with Verizon setting up to offer the device online August 29th for $99.99, after a $50.00 mail-in rebate, and with a new two-year agreement, obviously.

The Hydro Elite is a solid device, with a 720p 4.3 inch screen powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. It’s also packing an 8 megapixel rear camera, LTE support, the ability to stay submerged in up to three feet of water for a half hour.  It also has NFC touch-and-share and wireless charging capabilities, which is starting to become a trend for Verizon phones. To help really push the phone over the top, however, is the fact that survivalist expert Bear Grylls will help market the rugged features of this device. There’s a handful of videos on Kyocera’s YouTube channels with Grylls demonstrating the phone’s waterproof features and its unique “Sonic Receiver” technology, which supposedly makes the device audible under noisy circumstances. It’s a pretty crazy marketing scheme, but it’s extremely entertaining either way.

Anybody planning on picking up one of these waterproof phones in the next few days?
