Uncharted 2

The director that those behind the production of the Uncharted movie were hoping for is now reportedly out of the picture. The LA Times reports that after being considered as a potential director for the film version of Uncharted, negotiations with David O. Russell have fallen apart.

Russell directed and wrote Three Kings, as well as Spanking the Monkey and Flirting with Disaster. According to the LA Times, he had been negotiating for the past several weeks with the studio and producers, among them The Dark Knight‘s Charles Roven. With Russell out of the picture, the producers and studio will now begin the search for a new director, though they may choose to first look for “a star or two” to come aboard.

Now that the possibility of getting a director on board right away is gone, the chances of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune being released into theaters during 2011 is essentially gone, the report says. The film’s script is being written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara, A Sound of Thunder, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night).
