I really enjoy the convenience of downloadable games. I’ve got a fast-enough internet connection that they download quickly so that’s not a concern, and as a result I buy almost every one of my PC games digitally. But whenever someone complains that they should be cheaper than their disc-based counterparts, I find it hard to argue. Yes, some publishers say that you’re paying for the convenience, but THQ’s CEO made it clear that the company saves money by releasing games digitally. So why can’t those savings be shared with consumers? It’s wishful thinking, for sure, and as more publishers move towards digital-only releases, the situation is unlikely to change.
