This year looks like it could be a huge one for Mortal Kombat fans, and not just because the new game hits store shelves next month. Warner Bros. confirmed back in January that, for the first time in more than a decade, Mortal Kombat will be returning to the world of film with a new, live-action web series. Exciting stuff, right?

Pump the brakes, folks. Based on the Mortal Kombat franchise’s long history with fumbling tie-ins, movies, merchandising, and more, you may want to temper your expectations for the upcoming web show. Here’s a little refresher:
