Following the release of the reportedly leaked photos of an early prototype of the PlayStation Phone, Engadget, the publication that first released the photos, is now defending their legitimacy, insisting that they’re “most definitely real.” On top of that, VG247 now also reports their own “watertight source” has confirmed the prototype is real, and that it’s based on PSP1 tech.
There was some confusion following the release of the pictures, as a Sony representative reportedly said to NowGamer that the pictures were “definitely fake.” However, not long after NowGamer ran their story, they updated it to retract that comment and replace it with what is Sony’s official line on the pictures, which is that they “do not comment on rumor and speculation.”
But again, Engadget says they stand by the legitimacy of the pictures, saying their report was confirmed through “multiple, trusted sources,” some of which are “closely connected to the project.” They also addressed one picture (above) that showed the phone with “A” and “B” button prompts on the screen — which many pointed to as evidence that the pictures were likely fake — saying that the incorrect prompts were due to the device’s prototype nature.
