History is littered with innovators riding a wave of success generated entirely by technical prowess. Brands like Nintendo, Apple, and Pixar aren’t household names because of their entertainment value alone; without pushing the boundaries of technology, it’s unlikely that these companies would have found such fame and fortune. But sometimes, innovation — regardless of importance — is rooted in a very particular place and time, especially in an industry where it’s incredibly easy to become outdated.
