2K says it will support upcoming strategy game with multiple story-focused expansion packs; first DLC coming exclusively to Xbox 360.
After The Bureau: XCOM Declassified launches August 20, the game will live on through various story-driven expansion packs, 2K Games and 2K Marin announced today.
The first expansion will arrive exclusively for Xbox 360 players, though 2K said PC and PlayStation 3 gamers can also expect new content down the road.
“The alternate 1962 universe that we’ve created for The Bureau is vast and there are many more stories to tell about the early days of XCOM,” development director Morgan Gray said in a statement.
In addition, 2K announced today that those who preorder The Bureau at participating retailers will score a bonus campaign side-mission titled Codebreakers. In this mission, players and their squad must travel to a “top secret government communications facility” to bring the center back online.
On top of the Codebreakers mission, gamers who preorder The Bureau at GameStop will get the Light Plasma Pistol for use in-game.
The Bureau is set in 1962 America at the end of the Cold War. John F. Kennedy is president and the U.S. public at large is afraid of a nuclear war with Russia. At the same time, the US government is establishing a secret organization to combat this threat. As it turns out, it’s not the Russians who invade, it’s the aliens.
Described as a third-person tactical squad-based combat game, The Bureau borrows from the praised XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Specifically, the new game will adopt the pillars of the strategy series–Team, Tactics, Tools, Technology, and Terror–and introduce them to players in a new way.
