20 canceled, botched, or quietly killed things that almost happened in the games industry.
You hardly need to be convinced of this, but gaming is a pretty neat hobby. It’s also an incredibly unique industry: the music, film, and movie worlds don’t open their doors to its respective press and customers and let them lay hands on incomplete or in-development products. We get PAX, E3, GDC, and plenty more spoonfuls of alphabet soup that mean unprecedented access to games in both their most embryonic and almost-ready forms.
That also means we’re exposed to plenty of stuff that, for whatever reason, never sees the light of day. Since I’m feeling nostalgic lately, here’s a look at my top 20 highly publicized games, hardware, and mergers or acquisitions that just weren’t meant to be. (And hey, if you get really bummed about any of the game entries, just look to Duke Nukem Forever as a great asterisk in the sky for unending hope.)
