With layoffs set to hit the developer in June, Eden Games arranged a one-day protest for today described as a “symbolic day strike” intended “[t]o show the employees determination and mobilization.”
“Eden Games pays now for Atari mismanagement,” a statement sent to Gamasutra reads. Eden, which has developed both Test Drive Unlimited titles and 2008’s Alone in the Dark, among other things, is a subsidiary of Atari. “For several years we are witnessing multiple leader changes at its head, they did not hesitate to get rich despite financial difficulties,” the statement continued. It also said Eden is “skeptical” of a project Atari has proposed.
Following up with an Eden employee, Gamasutra was able to learn that only 29 employees out of 80 will be left after the layoffs begin (most likely in June). Test Drive Unlimited 2 is expected to sell about 900,000 copies, although Atari hasn’t shared that data with Eden.
