iPhone Games

Cell phone gamers are quickly increasing, according to a new Pew study. Gamasutra reports that the number of mobile gamers has risen by more than half in the last year, and now stands at 34% of all cell owners in the U.S.

The Mobile Access 2010 report from Pew notes that Americans are increasing use of cell phones to perform tasks usually performed by other devices. This includes taking photos, accessing the internet, and playing music. Predictably enough, younger users almost double the statistic, at 60% playing games on cell phones. No doubt this dramatic rise has been given a bump by the smart phone market — iPhone and Android phones have seen sharply rising adoption rates in recent years.

Pew also claims that about 42% of Americans own video game consoles. A vast majority of Americans own cell phones, so we may see a day soon when more people are playing games using phones than consoles or dedicated handheld devices like the PSP or DS.
