Over nine million people played the beta for DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront, making it the “single largest beta in the history of EA,” according to senior producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir.
Posting on the game’s official website, Ingvarsdottir said the studio “could not be happier” with the amount of interest being shown for its upcoming shooter.
“Ever since we revealed Star Wars Battlefront back in April, we knew the beta would be a huge test for our game. After all, the beta has been one of the most talked about topics around the game over the last six months, and it was exciting (and a little nerve racking if I’m being completely honest) to open it up to the world.
“Like Han Solo at the end of A New Hope, we’re glad you showed up,” she continued. “Even more importantly than just showing up, you’ve been spending a lot of time playing, having a great time’ and leaving us some invaluable feedback, as we continue to tune and balance the game until launch.”
In May 2015, EA exec Blake Jorgensen said the company expects to sell between nine and ten million copies of Star Wars Battlefront during the publisher’s fiscal year 2016 (ending March 31, 2016).
The Star Wars Battlefront release date has been confirmed as November 17. This is about a month before Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters in December.
EA has announced plans to release tie-in DLC for Battlefront based on Disney’s movie.
