Chris Roberts’ PC space simulator adds another $1 million this month to reach new milestone.

Star Citizen, the PC space simulator from Chris Roberts, has reached $20 million in crowdfunding, up from $19 million just over a week ago.

The new game is the most crowdfunded project–of any kind–of all time, and has now doubled the Pebble Watch’s $10 million fund raising effort.

Now that funding for Star Citizen has reached $20 million, developer Cloud Imperium Games will add first-person combat to the game, though no new details are available about this mode.

The original Kickstarter campaign for Star Citizen launched in October 2012 and concluded with $2.1 million, just a tenth of all-time funding.

According to Roberts, Star Citizen will fuse elements of his previous games, Wing Commander and Freelancer. Support for the virtual-reality headset Oculus Rift is planned.

Star Citizen is expected to be released in late 2014.
