It wouldn’t be that easy for Sprint to buy T-Mobile, right? According to Reuters, Dish Network may want in on the bidding war for the nation’s self-proclaimed ‘uncarrier’. Dish reportedly wants to expand its reach beyond the pay TV industry. They are so serious about buying T-Mobile that they spoke with its parent company, Deutsche Telekom AG.

Dish Network lost out on buying Sprint over the summer when SoftBank won the bidding war. But despite the loss, Dish’s CEO said that they were still interested in the wireless carrier market. Now it seems that Dish will be locking horns in yet another bidding war next year. Unlike the Sprint ordeal, Reuters says that Deutsche Telekom AG has a choice as to who T-Mobile goes to; therefore, no candidate can be considered a lock.

Now, you’re probably thinking that it makes no sense for a pay TV giant like Dish to get involved with T-Mobile. You have to remember that the company has been slowing buying wireless spectrum over time. But even after getting the FCC’s approval, Dish did nothing with its part of the wireless spectrum. Having the network infrastructure of a carrier like T-Mobile would give them the ability to use that wireless spectrum.
