Rumor has it that PSP 2 development kits have already been sent out, but Sony may be taking steps to steer more development in that direction. PSPgweber received a notice that dev kits for the original PlayStation Portable won’t be available for much longer. “SCEE will no longer be selling psp development tool (dtp-t200a) or testing tool (dtp-h2500a) past November, 15th. Please order in advance if you require these development units. We will advise you when a new model becomes available,” the notice read.

VG247 received a comment from Sony, claiming the notice is due to the certification of those test tools expiring. “However, we will continue to provide loan stock for registered and new developers, until a new certified model is available.”

Developers who want to make PSP games still can, using the old dev kits or loaners from Sony, but it sounds like the company is paving the way for more PSP 2 dev kits than the ones already sent out. Since the company is rumored to be aiming for a holiday 2011 release, the timing is right.
