The last time a retail version of SimCity was released, George W. Bush was in the middle of his first term and Al Gore had yet to reveal the inconvenient truth to the world. Now, nine years later Maxis plans to dive back into the urban creation franchise, and fans of the franchise should be anxious to hear what the newest version will bring. Revealed during Game Changers at GDC, the next installment into the Will Wright created franchise will be coming out in 2013.

EA is calling it a “rebirth of the franchise”. Not many details breakdown to classify such a proclamation, but EA promises to bring back things to the franchise that is expected: “Together, players will address real global challenges such as climate change, the search for renewable resources and natural disasters.ย  Itโ€™s up to the players to decide whether to compete or collaborate to shape the world of tomorrow โ€“ for better or for worse.”

Yes, global challenges; the game will involve not only your city but neighboring cities. If you are to have an earthquake hit your city, I’m sure neighboring cities will be affected as well, creating an experience that could be very cool if friends want to put their cities next to each other. While nothing was explained about the multiplayer functionality, I’m sure we’ll hear more in the near future.

As to current reports by Vox Games, there is no announcements for any iOS version of the new game. Right now, the title is only coming to PC. If you want to see a little bit more of the game, check out the trailer below.
