New release slate led by Rockstar’s period detective thriller, Lionhead’s action RPG, and new downloadable content for Obsidian’s game.

It’s a busy week at retail, as a range of new high profile releases drop this week including Rockstar Games’ long-awaited period detective game and the PC version of Lionhead’s third Fable entry.

Leading the pack this week is Team Bondi’s L.A. Noire for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The title follows Detective Phelps as he becomes entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in 1940’s Los Angeles. Players jump into the seedy underworld of the metropolis and are tasked with solving a series of murders in what Rockstar describes as an “open-ended challenge.”

Also debuting this Tuesday is Fable III for the PC. The game follows the well-reviewed Xbox 360 version, having been delayed last summer. While PC gamers have had to wait months to play the game, the time has afforded Lionhead the ability to do something it has never done with a Fable game: add difficulty levels and stereoscopic 3D support. Fable III for the PC will ship with an exclusive Hardcore mode, which raises the game’s difficulty.

Gamers looking to add to their copies of Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas can grab the Honest Hearts downloadable content for Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game on Tuesday. The DLC was announced with an arrival day of May 17 for the PlayStation 3, but as of press time, the PlayStation Network remains offline.

As for the content, the $10 add-on takes place in Utah’s Zion National Park and sees gamers leading an expedition that is swamped by a roving tribal war party. Players are then charged with escaping to the Mojave, battling the belligerent nomads in the process.

Also dropping this week is PC role-playing game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The dark fantasy game will be available on Tuesday in both a $50 Premium Edition and a $130 Collector’s Edition.

The Witcher 2 is a direct sequel to the events of the 1.5-million-unit-selling original and picks back up with professional monster slayer Geralt following a failed assassination of Temerian royalty. Geralt then sets out on a quest to track down the king’s attempted killers, while also continuing to pursue those responsible for murdering other witchers.
