In this Live Stream and Review, Ready Sets Gaming plays Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew Demo on PC.
Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is an upcoming stealth strategy game set during an alternate history of the Golden Age of Piracy. The game is developed by Mimimi Games, the same studio that created the critically acclaimed Desperados III and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.
In Shadow Gambit, you take on the role of Afia, a cursed pirate who is seeking to revive her crew. The game is played from a top-down perspective, and you must use stealth and strategy to complete a variety of missions. Each mission takes place on a different island in the Lost Caribbean, and you must use the environment to your advantage in order to avoid detection.
The utilization of supernatural abilities is one of Shadow Gambit’s most distinctive characteristics. Each member of Afia’s crew has a special talent of their own, such as the power to teleport, conjure illusions, or manipulate the weather. You can use these skills to make complex plans and carry them out flawlessly.
The game also places a lot of attention on the narrative. As you advance through the plot of Shadow Gambit, you will meet a range of characters—both human and otherworldly—in a world where the supernatural is real. Cutscenes and dialogue are used to tell the game’s story, which is sure to keep you interested the entire time.
It is advisable to remember that this is just a game demo and that there is still potential for improvement. The controls were one of the things about which I was a bit perplexed. I’m not sure if the game can be played with a controller, but I chose to use the keyboard and mouse instead because I feel more comfortable using those controls with games of this genre.
Having said that, I thought the controls could have been described a little bit more thoroughly. I admit that before accidentally letting my mouse travel around the game screen, I was a little perplexed by how the camera moved. Additionally, I would prefer it if the camera tracked the character because after selecting a place for Aifa to visit, I briefly lost track of her before finding her again. Additionally, how to interact with characters wasn’t clearly explained, so I had to learn by doing.
Overall, once I figure things out the game was really interesting and I enjoyed the demo. If you are a fan of stealth games, strategy games, or games with a strong emphasis on story, then Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is definitely worth checking out. The game looks like it has the potential to be a truly unique and memorable experience.
Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is scheduled to be released on August 17, 2023 for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
