Red Dead Redemption

A trademark filing for Rockstar Films has been discovered which may indicate the Grand Theft Auto maker is closer than ever to creating movies based on its games.

This isn’t the first time the name Rockstar Films has come up. A trademark for the name was originally filed in 2004 and was described as providing “entertainment services in the nature of a live-action and/or animated television program series.” Rockstar Games — through Rockstar Films — was credited as executive producer on two films, The Football Factory and Sunday Driver. The latter was a documentary on a California-based car club that was included with the Special Edition of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Rockstar has a small section of its website devoted to it here.

The new trademark sounds more expansive. It was filed this past December and was then picked up on recently by SystemLink Alt (via Game Informer). It has not yet finished going through the registration process and won’t officially be published in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s official weekly journal until July 19.
