Even though we’re at what would seem to be a low-point for the music/band game genre, Ubisoft has gone ahead and announced a new guitar game for release later this year. Making it a guitar-only game might sound like a step back from the full band experience of recent Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but this one is being designed entirely around the usage of real guitars as controllers.
To play Rocksmith, you simply plug in any guitar with a standard, quarter-inch input jack to your game platform of choice and use the guitar just as you normally would. Presumably the game listens and analyzes the specific notes you’re playing, although that process hasn’t been explained yet.
“Rocksmith is the most authentic and addicting music game ever created,” said Ubisoft’s Tony Key. “Whether a beginner or a seasoned guitar vet, players progress at their own speed and walk away from the game with the ability to play songs by memory. Rocksmith is the only video game that gets players stage ready.”
