Update: In a statement to GameSpot, marketing VP Jeremy Dunham confirmed that Rocket League is in the process of being ported to other systems. “Yes, we are definitely bringing Rocket League to additional platforms,” he said. “We’ll have an official announcement of what platforms those are (and when) a little further down the line.”

Original Story:

Rocket League launched last month on PlayStation 4 and PC, and it quickly became very popular. It has already passed 5 million downloads, and, at times, it has had over 100,000 concurrent players. Now, it appears that Rocket League is coming to more platforms.

In an interview with GameZone, VP of marketing Jeremy Dunham stated that developer Psyonix is absolutely looking into porting the game to other systems. The game’s success made it an easy choice to bring it elsewhere. “Now that the game is doing as well as it’s doing and people really want to see [it on different systems], we’ve focused on [porting the game],” Dunham explained. “We’re now in a position that we can expand our team. We are absolutely, 100 percent going to other platforms.”

Dunham wouldn’t specify which platforms the studio will bring the game to. However, he did explain that Rocket League’s launch on limited systems was necessary considering the size of the Rocket League team. “The number one reason we’re only on PlayStation and PC is because the team is small,” he said. “For the majority of the development, there were only 8 to 12 people working on Rocket League, and we’ve only very recently–in the last few weeks–added a couple of people to that count.”

He continued: “We wanted to make sure that it was very good, very polished, that everybody liked it, and the only way we could ensure that was to focus on two platforms.”

We’ve reached out to Psyonix for more details and will update this story if we receive new information.

Recently, Psyonix announced the first DLC pack for Rocket League. It contains two cars, wheels, and boosts, in addition to five new paint types. There will also be a substantial update for the game in the coming weeks that adds a new map.
