Insomniac Games announces release date for third entry in the science fiction shooter series.
Resistance 2 was a big hit for Sony, winning commercial and critical success when it released in 2008. Sony and Insomniac Games are hoping to strike gold again next year, when the next entry in the series is due out.
Insomniac tonight announced via Twitter that Resistance 3 will release on September 6, 2011 exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in North America. A release date for Europe or other regions was not announced.
A third entry in the Resistance series was first hinted at in 2009, when a billboard bearing its name and logo appeared on a Baton Rouge movie set. Additionally, Insomniac is taking more time with the third Resistance title, as it will debut three years after Resistance 2. The original Resistance: Fall of Man released in 2006, followed by Resistance 2 in 2008.
Resistance 3 won’t be the only title from Insomniac Games out in 2011. In late May Insomniac announced a deal with Electronic Arts’ EA Partners program that will see an all-new Insomniac property arrive on the Xbox 360, as well as the PlayStation 3. Neither the game’s title nor a more specific release window was announced.
