amazon-phone

An Amazon smartphone has been rumored for the past two years, but if they ever launch one, who would make it? According to Financial Times,  HTC will be the manufacturer of choice. Apparently, the two companies have collaborated on three phones, and one of them is at an “advanced stage of development.” Now that doesn’t mean we will see a release soon because it has already been delayed by Amazon before, and Amazon could still decide not to push it forward. If it does make it to market, it will probably be in 2014.

Both Amazon and HTC didn’t comment on the situation directly, but HTC CMO Ben Ho said the company is “always exploring new opportunities”. Kindle devices are made by contract manufacturers, but it would be the first time that Amazon enlisted a brand-name device maker.

Assuming this is true, I see this as big news for HTC since an Amazon phone could sell very well. The only problem is that the release of the final product needs to happen quickly.
