The Following game “Meg’s Monster” was provided to me from thedailygamepad.net and was given to thedailygamepad.net for free by the developers/publishers of the game. I would like to thank the developers/publishers on behalf of thedailygamepad.net for providing a free copy of the game to play for this video and for review.

Meg’s Monster is an adorable Adventure RPG in which you take on the role of Roy a brutish monster from the Underworld, who must protect a young human girl who has not only fallen into the Underworld but has the power to possibly destroy it.

I will admit that the game drew me in with its art style and will admit that it reminds me a bit of Undertale. That’s not a bad thing though, since I am a fan of Undertale I still looked at Meg’s Monster with a different eye and found myself enjoying what I did get to play of it. The beginning did leave me with quite a few questions and started making theories that make me want to play the game, even more, to find out the answers. I am going to do my best to keep this spoiler free so as those who wish to play. With that being said, looking at the video above will contain spoilers but has been provided for those who want to see the gameplay of the game.

When it comes to the graphics it sent a nostalgic feeling through me that pulled me into the game right away. I also love the bantering between the characters. I think my only issue sometimes with the Dialogue between Golan and Roy, is that Golan uses modern slang and sometimes it’s overused, but again I have a theory as to why he talks this way, but it would have been nice to dial the “bro” speech back a little. When it comes to Roy, I absolutely love Roy, because all Roy cares about is eating his Magic Tar and nothing else, and I can relate to that.

The combat is turn base which I love and appreciate as you don’t see a lot of turn base combat games anymore. So I was thrilled that the game was turned base. The only thing from what I played is that it appears that Roy and Meg are in a group. Roy is overpowered, and that’s fine because your main concern is making sure Meg’s happiness doesn’t reach zero, or there goes the end of the underworld as we know it. So where Roy can take a punch or two this upsets Meg, who seems to have grown attached to Roy and if her happiness hits zero then it’s game over. This wouldn’t be a problem except her happiness tends to drop pretty drastically, so you want to take the battles and be cautious with them.

In addition to the gameplay, the game feels more like a visual novel with RPG elements to it. You start off with reading and then it’s a battle. Then more reading then a battle. This could change as the game progresses but the story is interesting enough to pull you in, and I do like the battle sequences when they do come about.

When it comes to the controls for the game, it uses both a Keyboard and Mouse as well as Controller. I choose to use a controller over the keyboard and mouse. Although I don’t think it makes much of a difference as more than a preference thing. I will say that if you choose to use a controller when it comes to selecting destinations you will have the use the directional pad as opposed to the thumbsticks. So again it’s overall your choice of preference.

Overall, Meg’s Monster is a delightful game and I do recommend it. Especially, if you are someone who enjoys story-driven games, and are a fan of games like Undertale. I really had a lot of fun with the game and cannot wait to play even more of the game and get the answers to the question that I have.

If you would like to play Meg’s Monster for yourself, you can do so on the following platforms Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X/S. The game goes for $14.99 USD but is currently on sale for $13.29 USD up until March 9, 2023, for Steam and March 8, 2023, for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One/Xbox Series X/S.
