BioWare reveals new playable race for upcoming role-playing game, says the title is “largest game we have ever made”; tactical mode returning for consoles and PC.

The Qunari will be a playable race in Dragon Age: Inquisition, BioWare announced today during a PAX Prime presentation in Seattle, Washington.

The original Dragon Age: Origins allowed players to create a character from a range of races. Its sequel, Dragon Age II, forced players into the role of a human named Hawke.

Both male and female Qunari options will be available to players, BioWare said. The developer confirmed earlier this month that multiple playable races would be featured the upcoming game.

Also during the panel, executive producer Mark Darrah said Dragon Age: Inquisition represents the “largest game we have ever made.”

Also during the panel, BioWare revealed players will be able to command their party through a top-down perspective on consoles and PC via “Tactical” mode, which was featured in the original Dragon Age. Gamers can switch between this view and third-person over-the-shoulder whenever they want.

Dragon Age: Inquisition runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, the technology also behind upcoming games Battlefield 4 and Need for Speed: Rivals.

The role-playing game was recently delayed one year. It is now due out in fall 2014 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Electronic Arts recently explained that its decision to drop the “III” from the game’s title was for both marketing and story purposes.
