Despite the four-year-long development time and multiple delays, it looks like there are still features that Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital weren’t able to cram into Gran Turismo 5. One feature that won’t be in the final game is motorbike racing, but according to Yamauchi, it’s possible that could be added as downloadable content in the future.
“The environment we have right now allows us to drive motorcycles, but we need to get Gran Turismo 5 done first,” Yamauchi said to PSM3 magazine (via CVG). “Once that’s out of the way, if there’s a strong demand for bikes, that’s something we’d consider.”
Of course, Polyphony has previous experience with motorbike racing development, as they made Tourist Trophy for the PlayStation 2 back in 2006 — which was essentially Gran Turismo with bikes instead of cars. As for GT5, it’ll already have stock car racing, rally racing, NASCAR, and even go-karts when it hits store shelves. So if motorcycles also get added as DLC, GT5 really could make a claim at being the most complete single racing game ever made.
