The critically-acclaimed PC RPG that console owners have wished for is almost here, and this weekend at PAX East spent some time in my palms.  What I experienced and witnessed was an example of glorious-porting on behalf of CD Projekt RED, with side-by-side comparisons to the PC version looking nearly identical in a way I didn’t think possible.

I didn’t dive deep into my session with Assassins of Kings, keeping my focus on the simpler things like UI, control, and performance, all of which seem to be on the right track to satisfying console RPG fans. No signs of screen-tearing were visible and the frame-rate moved smoothly, along with the character animations. As for the user interface, it’s not doing anything revolutionary but rather simply working.

As long as CD Projekt RED can keep up with game patches and issues after Assassins of Kings hits store shelves, they look to have given console owners with an affinity for some mature RPG content what they’ve wanted since The Witcher.  If you’re one of the many unfortunate to not own a gaming rig powerful enough to run this beautiful, action-heavy adventure…the wait will soon be over.
