Huge thanks to Piraknights Games and Team17 for providing me with a free copy to preview and play on stream. I had a blast exploring its weird world, and I’m already looking forward to seeing how it evolves before release.

If you’ve ever wanted to run the afterlife like a slightly overworked office manager, Sintopia might just be your next obsession. Developed by Piraknights Games and published by Team17, this upcoming fantasy management sim is a darkly funny blend of paperwork, purgatory, and pure chaos — with a whole lot of charm sprinkled in.
Before we get too deep into the paperwork pile, this is a preview of Sintopia. Everything shown here is based on early access gameplay footage, and things may change before the full release in 2026.

At its core, Sintopia puts you in the role of an Administrator of the Underworld, managing a surreal afterlife ecosystem where even death has deadlines. You’re not alone, though — your delightfully snarky assistant Lily, the “first succubus,” guides you through your duties with a mix of charm and sass that immediately sets the tone.
Your main workforce? The Hummus — sentient chickpea-like creatures who live, die, and get reborn in a never-ending soul cycle. It’s your job to oversee their production, resource gathering, and moral balance, all while keeping your celestial spreadsheets in order.

Gameplay revolves around maintaining your growing network of temples, sawmills, and mines — all while balancing the karmic budget. You’ll harvest materials, construct roads, and hire workers to automate your afterlife empire.
And it’s not just resource management — it’s soul management. If your little Hummus start to accumulate too many sins, you’re in for a bad time. Fortunately, you’ve got tools like the Reaper, a contractor who helps you collect souls (and adds a delightful dose of dark humor to your day).
One of my favorite touches is the ability to manipulate time — fast-forwarding progress or slowing things down to micromanage the chaos. It gives you just enough control to feel like a divine being… with a full inbox.

Sintopia doesn’t shy away from gallows humor. The game encourages “creative” ways to harvest souls, including absurd moments like having them crushed by cows. It’s tongue-in-cheek and oddly satisfying — the kind of dark humor that makes you laugh and then question your own morals a little.
Despite the grim theme, there’s a warmth to the writing. The characters, from your maintenance expert Larry (yes, a forklift champion) to the ever-efficient Janine, all feel like they’re pulled straight from a bizarre workplace sitcom. Combined with the ethereal soundtrack and hand-crafted environments, it’s easy to lose hours managing your macabre little empire.

Even in its preview state, Sintopia shows a ton of potential. The mix of fantasy, bureaucracy, and soul economy feels fresh, and the humor keeps things light even when you’re juggling life, death, and endless paperwork.
The systems are deep enough for sim fans but approachable enough for newcomers. There’s a certain satisfaction in watching your little Hummus hustle — even if their lives are hilariously expendable.
Sintopia is shaping up to be a wickedly creative management sim that somehow makes death feel… cozy? It’s clever, funny, and packed with personality — like The Office meets The Underworld.
You can try out the free demo of Sintopia right now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to release in 2026. Just remember — this is an early preview, and the final version may include updates, new features, or totally unexpected surprises.
