Event organizers say annual gaming gathering skipping this year due to “jam-packed” schedule; 2012 Battle.net World Championship to be held in Asia.

Blizzard’s BlizzCon gaming gala–a celebration of all things Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo–has been held every year since 2007, but this year, gamers won’t have one to look forward to.

Today, Blizzard announced that due to the company’s “jam-packed” scheduled, it has decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013. Blizzard said it is presently “heavily focused” on releasing Diablo III, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm “as soon as possible.”

In addition, Blizzard today announced the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, an e-sports tournament to feature the “best pro-gaming competition in the world.” The event will take place at the end of 2012 in Asia, and will host the 2012 StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments.

More information concerning the 2012 Battle.net World Championship and BlizzCon 2013–like locations and dates–will be shared in the coming months, Blizzard said.
