DirecTV app won’t return to PlayStation 3 for this football season after Microsoft signs deal with NFL.
DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket, which allows users to watch any out-of-market NFL game, will not be available on PlayStation 3 this season.
A PlayStation representative confirmed the news to IGN, though no explanation was given as to why the service has been pulled.
During the Xbox One announcement in May, Microsoft announced a new partnership with the NFL estimated to be valued at $400 million over five years.
“When we look for partners, we look for the best,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said
at the time. “From a technology standpoint, Xbox/Microsoft–there’s no one better.
NFL Sunday Ticket was first offered through the PlayStation Network for the 2011 season.
