It looks like the long-running rumors and speculation about the next proper Tomb Raider game may soon come to an end. The latest issue of Game Informer includes a two-page spread (via NeoGAF) of a teaser image for the next issue of Game Informer, showing artwork of a shipwreck with the words “A Survivor is Born” scrawled across the pages.
Not much to go on, sure…until you recall this pretty much exactly matches earlier rumors of a potential Tomb Raider reboot. Last year, a market research survey leaked to the net describing one concept for such a reboot, where a “young and inexperienced” Lara Croft would become shipwrecked and marooned on an island. The game would supposedly focus on the concept of “survival,” as well as on hunting and being hunted by mysterious enemies.
So yes, this teaser image may be foreshadowing the announcement of a completely unrelated game that also just happens to be about a shipwreck and the following struggle for survival (which, let’s be real, is certainly within the realm of coincidental-if-unlikely possibility). Or, it could be an early hint that this Tomb Raider reboot concept is, in the end, the real-deal — and we’ll get a few more details soon enough. The teaser image says the next cover will be revealed on Game Informer’s website on December 6, so all mysteries will be answered then.
