Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

Remember Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks? The co-operative brawler went down in history as one of the few Mortal Kombat spin-offs that didn’t totally suck, but it somehow never saw a follow-up. A Shaolin Monks sequel was apparently under development at one point, however.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon revealed over the weekend that Midway had another Shaolin Monks in the works, but financial constraints lead to the game’s cancellation. “When they finished [Shaolin Monks], the guys at Paradox were gonna do another one called Fire & Ice,” Boon told Game Informer, continuing, “It was gonna be a co-operative Scorpion and Sub-Zero game. They actually started the early stages of that game, but they couldn’t do it in time and under budget, so the project was canceled and kind of went away.”

“There were a few [Mortal Kombat games] that have been started, and some that never should have been finished. Special Forces probably shouldn’t have ever been shipped,” he added.
