Rusty’s Retirement is a breath of fresh air for anyone looking for a chill and calming game. I played the demo back when there was a demo for the game and fell in love with the game. So it was a no-brainer for me to purchase the game. I purchased the Supporter Pack so my Rusty has golden skin, which is a bonus for purchasing the Supporter Pack.

When I turn on my laptop in the morning to be productive, I also load Rusty’s Retirement, as I’m working on a variety of projects, and when I get overwhelmed with what I’m working on, I just hang out with Rusty and Friends for about 15-20 minutes, which gives me the recharge I need and helps me calm down so that I can focus on my work.

The game is an idle farming simulator that appears at the bottom of your screen when you play. I usually leave it running in the background while I work because it doesn’t use a lot of resources. That way, I can always return to check on things as necessary. The game features eight different robots, including Rusty. Haiku, the robot from Mister Morris Games’ previous game, makes an appearance. One thing I would have liked to see was more control over Splunk, like you have over Rusty and Haiku. Splunk is one of the characters that will automatically plant seeds for you.

I’m not sure whether Splunk already performs this, but I’d like to specify what seeds they should sow. I’m not sure if they spread the newest seed for your crops or the seeds you truly need to open up other seeds. I haven’t been able to catch them planting since, by the time I return, my soil is full of seeds. So, while writing this article, I planted two more soils, I got distracted and went back to see what Splunk planted, and let me tell you, Splunk is quite quick with planting, so I still don’t have an answer to my question of how they decide what to plant. I have planted four new soils and added sign decorations, so let’s see if this helps Splunk plant certain seeds. Sorry, I am determined to answer this one question on how they plant things. I can now confirm that if you place signs for the crops, Splunk will place those crops in those spots, which is cool. So if you want it to be a little more organized, use the crop signs. I think the only other thing I would want Splunk to do, is water the crops if they have nothing to plant, because once all the soils are filled with crops, Splunk just walks around.

Another thing, that left me a little confused with the game was that once I opened up my entire farm, it said that I had now opened up the Flower Swamp Farm. I am confused about whether this is indeed a new farm or flavor text, as if it is an actual farm, I am not sure how to toggle to that farm. So a better understanding of how to toggle to that farm would be great.

|REVISE 05/01/2025 at 9:25 AM EST|

I just wanted to revise this part of the article with the steps on how to access the other farms in case, anybody else is having the same issues. So apparently, once you open up the entire farm, you need to save your game and go back to the main menu. Once in the main menu, you would select New for a new game, and it would allow you to select the farm layout of your choice as well as the orientation of the game. So you can play it in landscape or portrait mode. There appear to be five farms that you can play with as well, but you do have to unlock them before you can play them, and each gives you challenges that add more fun to the game.

In addition to being an idle farming sim game, Rusty’s Retirement has Twitch integration, which is perfect for streamers. The Twitch connection enables your community to work on your farm by planting and watering, among other things. I tried this on my last stream, but it didn’t work out as I hoped. I’m not sure whether I didn’t set it up correctly because it said it was connected, but my chat was unable to interact with the game. I have seen that others have gotten it set up correctly, so I might just have to go and reset it again to get it working properly.

I am glad that Twitch integration was implemented into the game, because while I am playing my other games, my chat has a way to stay interactive with the stream, and they can vibe and chill with the game as well. As I said, for me, I just have to revisit the steps in setting it up. One of the things that would be cool is if the game had a Twitch bot when connected to the game so that if you connected it to your Twitch, it would share the link to the commands that can be used by chat. I set it up on my bot to call out whenever, but it would be nice if the game did this automatically.

Overall, I believe Rusty’s Retirement is an excellent addition to anyone who likes farming sims. It’s also an excellent addition if you’ve always wanted to try farming sims but didn’t have the time to devote to them. If you have difficulty focusing, or if you become overstimulated or stressed at work, I strongly advise you to pick up Rusty’s Retirement because it is more than simply a game; it is also an excellent tool for self-regulation. If you want to play Rusty’s Retirement for yourself, you may do so on Steam for the current sale price of 6.29 USD until May 7, 2024, after which it will revert to its regular price of $6.99 USD.
