Mighty Mage is a top-down arena shooter rogue-lite where you play as an adorable little mage flinging elemental spells like it’s your part-time job. You can wield up to five spells at a time and mix-and-match upgrades to create some pretty wild builds. The whole experience is short, sweet, and action-packed — with just 15 waves of enemies per run. That’s it. Fifteen. Perfect if you’re in the mood for some fast magical chaos.
There are four elemental types: Fire, Water, Earth, and Lightning. Now, I know what you’re thinking — Lightning? Isn’t that kinda like Fire 2.0? I thought so too. Turns out Lightning is standing in for Air (I Googled it because my brain refused to let it go). Personally, I would’ve preferred a classic Wind element, but hey, it works.

Controls-wise, you’ve got options. You can use a controller or stick with mouse and keyboard. I found the controller made things way easier — I was clearing all 15 waves in about 5 to 10 minutes. But the mouse and keyboard setup? Definitely trickier. The game doesn’t lock your cursor in, so if you accidentally click out of the window, it won’t pause — and that’s how I died once. Or twice. Okay, maybe three times.
On average, each run clocks in around 11 minutes (yes, I actually timed it), but once you get into the groove, you can wrap things up even faster. It’s a light, fun experience that’s great in short bursts. That said, if you’re not into chasing achievements or experimenting with builds, you might get your fill pretty quickly.

Not sure about Steam Deck compatibility at the moment, but honestly? I feel like Mighty Mage would be right at home there.
A big thank you to the developers/publishers for providing me with a free copy of the game to check out — I really appreciate it!
If you want to give Mighty Mage a go, it’s available on PC via Steam for just $2.99 USD. It’s also part of the Afil Bundle, so if you’re into collecting fun little indie gems, that might be worth checking out too.
