A Reuters report indicates that Microsoft is in early talks to bring some form of television subscription service to the Xbox 360.
Speaking with the news organization, a pair of insiders claimed that negotiations are already underway between the Xbox Live provider and television networks. The goal, according to Reuters’ sources, is to turn Microsoft’s online service into a “virtual cable operator,” offering premium cable programming through the Xbox 360 for a monthly rate.
The anonymous tipsters also mentioned plans to allow current cable subscribers the option to watch shows on their consoles with added interactivity, as well as the possibility of incorporating more standalone channels into the Xbox Live service — something along the lines of the recently launched ESPN streaming service, for instance.
