A nearly 10-minute-long trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been recreated in its entirety using Grand Theft Auto V.
The video above, which was uploaded to the YouTube account EV niconico (via Kotaku) after being published to Japanese site Niconico earlier this month, is an impressively accurate remake of a gameplay-heavy trailer for The Phantom Pain released last year during E3.
While some substitutions had to be made in light of certain things not existing in GTA V–motorcycles for horses being one of the less strange examples–most of the action from the trailer is kept intact. This was all accomplished by 27 contributors over the course of three weeks, according to the video’s description.
The video below, also posted to the EV niconico account, puts the two versions of the trailer side-by-side, making it easier to compare and contrast the two.
The first act of Metal Gear Solid V was recently released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 as Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The Phantom Pain remains in development for the same four platforms as Ground Zeroes and has not yet been given a release date, although there have been indications that it may not be out until late next year.
